At long last. Here is the first of several interviews I recorded at Fen Con IV. This with 2007’s con chair Tim Miller and co-founder. The other co-founder is Ed Dravecky whom I hope to interview in the future.

I’ll try to add some more show notes later, but without people like Tim, Ed and their whole crew fans like us wouldn’t get to meet the authors and artists whose work we love nor get to have fun with our fellow fans.

Two new segments. Show notes are a bit sparse this time. I kept my narration down to a minimum because it’s ragweed season and I’m allergic to it.

Mel’s Take

Mel Tatum’s does a book review of Hurricane Moon by Alexis Glynn Latner.

Selina Rosen’s new segment wherein she talks about stuff. Can you guess what it is called? Is it:

  1. Stretching With Selina
  2. Sketching With Selina
  3. Vetching With Selina
  4. Etching With Selina
  5. Fetching With Selina
  6. Buy My Books at Yard Dog Press.

I’ll be attending Fen Con IV, Dallas, TX Sept. 21-23, 2007. I hoe to get some great interviews.

Not in the show but notes in general in regards to Fen Con. Guests attending that have appeared on the Conestoga Podcast: David Lee Anderson (not online yet), Maggie Bonham (appeared in 3 podcasts), Bradley Denton, Deborah LeBlanc, and M.T. Reiten.

I have an interview with Rachel Caine coming soon on EFC17 who will also be a guest at Fen Con IV.

Hasn’t seen a lot of changes in the publishing industry

Has seen a lot of changes in the retail side. Mid-80’s lots of mall stores. Now lots of superstores

You can’t stumble across a book anymore. You have to go to a big store with intent to buy bookLots of changes in distribution to non-book stores: pharmacies, grocery stores, etc. Fewer distributors. Less variety.

Word of mouth is important
Joshua encourage clients to get out and meet people.

I mention podcasts have changed my non-fiction buying habits These are usually radio shows released as podcasts. And I hope podcasts will help change fiction buying habits. There are more outlets for book reviews available now, especially on the Internet.

Such as Sci Fi Weekly
